An independent think-tank, based in Islamabad, Pakistan, dedicated to promoting policy-oriented research on contemporary Islam, international relations and modern Pakistan. The Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) is an autonomous, non-profit, and non-governmental organization that contributes to the development of sound policies at the national, regional and international level by conducting analyses of policy proposals and public programs; undertaking independent research of current issues; creating opportunities for meaningful dialogue between among those who create, influence and have a stake in policies; and disseminating information, analyses and insights about current affairs and policy issues to stakeholders as well as the public at large. Core areas of policy research and advocacy at IPS include Country Affairs, including Pakistani society, education, economy, governance and politics, and security; International Relations, including regional and global politics and trends; and Contemporary Islam, that is, developments in Islamic thought and movements in Pakistan and the rest of the Muslim world. IPS disseminates the findings of its research through a variety of channels, including national and international conferences, symposia and seminars; publication of books, periodicals and research papers; and contributions to the mass media. IPS has been an active contributor to policy study and debate in Pakistan since 1979. Emphasizing optimal participation of the entire range of stakeholders, IPS consistently reaches out to – and benefits from the inputs of – eminent policy makers, political leaders, legislators, jurisprudents, policy analysts and researchers, the academia, media and journalists, professionals, businesspersons, as well as members of the general public.
