SBOS is charged with the collection, compilation and tabulation of statistical data on socio-economic sectors of the Province. Bureau of Statistics was set up in 1970 with staff of only 28 technical and administrative personnel with the objective of statistical data collection, compilation, tabulation and its publication on all sectors of the economy of Sindh province. In order to meet growing statistical requirements of the planners / policy makers Bureau of Statistics was expanded and its activities were enhanced through two development schemes implemented in the years 1971 and 1977. As a result of this staff strength went up to 454 personnel and a network of 41 Field Offices at Division / District / Sub-Division was laid. Bureau of Statistics in Sindh Province is responsible for collection, compilation, tabulation and dissemination of statistical data. Bureau has developed computerized databases in Agriculture, Industries, Education, Health and Human Rural Settlements. Bureau supplies data on a number of sectors to various Ministries, Divisions, Departments, Autonomous Bodies, Corporations, and Agencies, both under Federal and Provincial Governments. Bureau is responsible for coordination of statistical activities in the Province and with the Federal Government. Bureau develops socio-economic indicators and publishes around 40 publications in a year that are widely circulated. Bureau assists number of academic and research institutions both national and international in conducting Censuses and Surveys and case studies. Bureaus Field Offices located throughout the Province prepare Statistical Brochures for their jurisdictions and help assist their counterparts in collection, supply and analyses of data.
